 Tension as Niger Delta Host Communities Threaten Oil Shutdown Nigeria’s oil sector faces fresh uncertainty as host communities in Bayelsa State have issued a 14-day ultimatum to NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NEPL), threatening to shut down operations at Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 86 and 88 over a dispute regarding security contracts. In a letter dated March 28, 2025, signed by community representatives, including Chief Christopher Tuduo and Dr. Amakiri Ngozi, the communities protested NEPL’s decision to terminate Multiplan Nigeria Limited’s contract and reduce the number of community-owned security vessels from three to two. The affected communities—spanning Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs—argue that the security contracts, introduced by Chevron in 2007, were meant to safeguard oil infrastructure and maintain peace. ALHAJI LAI MOHAMMED, AT THE DAILY NATIONAL PRESS BRIEFING BY THE PTF ON COVID-19 IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY, 28 APRIL 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari today had a phone conversation with President Donald Trump, at the request of the American President.
The conversation centred on Nigeria's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Buhari used the opportunity to brief the American President on the steps that Nigeria is taking to contain the spread of the disease.
For his part, President Trump assured that the United States stands in solidarity with Nigeria in this difficult time and promised to send ventilators to support the country in its fight against the pandemic.
President Trump also extends his best regards to the people of Nigeria.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
