Target Pulls Children’s Halloween Clown Costume After Blackface Backlash Target has removed a children’s Halloween clown costume from its website after facing intense online backlash. Critics said the costume’s dark face covering and exaggerated wide mouth resembled historical minstrel and blackface caricatures. The outfit was listed under Target’s in-house _Hyde & EEK! Boutique_ collection. On platforms like Threads and Instagram, users shared photos of the costume and pointed out its striking similarity to 19th- and 20th-century racist minstrel imagery and old “jig dolls.” Following the rapid criticism, Target quietly pulled the item from its online store. The retailer has not released a formal public statement or explanation about the design.
