 71-year-old landlord arrested for impregnating tenant’s teenage daughter The Ogun State Police Command said it had arrested a septuagenarian landlord, identified simply as Adesina, for allegedly defiling and impregnating his tenant’s 14-year-old girl (name withheld) at Akegbeyale Street in Ifesowapo Akute, Ifo Local Government Area of the state. PUNCH Metro learnt that the residents and other tenants were thrown into a state of shock when the septuagenarian suspect was found on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, having sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old girl at about 10:15 pm in the house bathroom. The minor, according to a police source who was part of the team that arrested the 71-year-old suspect but was not permitted to speak for the command, was said to have made her way to the apartment’s bathroom to take a shower. Harps on Gender Inclusivity


The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in a commendable move towards promoting gender inclusivity and professional development within the Nigeria Police Force, has approved and overseen a comprehensive mentoring programme targeting young women officers for better service delivery, decency, and self-esteem. The initiative is part of the IGP’s commitment to implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace, and Security in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 aimed at ensuring gender-sensitive and responsive security sector reform. 


This programme commenced with an interactive session by the representative of the IGP, the Force Gender Adviser, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, PhD, OON, mni, and other senior female officers, with the recent graduating female cadets at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, a few days to their passing out parade and presidential commissioning, where she charged them on dedication to work, discipline and committed service to the fatherland. She further added that the young female officers will be placed under the supervision of experienced female officers for continuous mentorship and guidance.


The Inspector-General of Police noted that the mentorship programme aims at providing young women officers with a supportive environment for personal and professional growth, equipping them with essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to excel in their careers. The IGP reiterated the NPF’s commitment to promoting gender diversity and inclusivity at all levels. He noted that the NPF is poised to evolve and adapt to modern challenges which contribute to building a more effective, diverse, and resilient policing system in Nigeria.

Namtira Bwala has threatened to file a lawsuit against the school authorities if her abusers are not punished within 48 hours.
