Rebels to withdraw from key DR Congo town 'after US request' The M23 rebel group has said it would withdraw from the eastern DR Congo town of Uvira at the request of the US administration, which had criticised seizure of the town last week as a threat to mediation efforts. The rebels entered Uvira, on the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met with US President Donald Trump in Washington and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept." LASTMA, Army Partner On Traffic Management In Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and Officials of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday agreed to strengthen their partnership on traffic management in Lagos.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, revealed this in a press statement.

In a video clip trending on Monday, some soldiers were seen beating up a LASTMA official, in the Ojota area of the state, knocking him out in what looks to be a retaliation.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, during a working visit by Officials of the 9 Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army led by Brigadier General Adegoke Moses Adetuyi at LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos, noted that there was no love lost between the two agencies.

Oreagba said, "The incident pertaining to the face-off between a LASTMA officer and a soldier is unfortunate, but there is no love lost between the two sister agencies and that LASTMA personnel would continue to rely on continuous support from the Nigerian Army and other security agencies across the state.

"We won't abuse the relationship nor take the cordiality and warm friendliness which has existed between the Army and LASTMA for granted"

The Commander of the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Adegoke Moses Adetuyi, in his address said that bad elements prosper when there is division among security agencies, so there is a need for more cordial collaboration and maximum cooperation between government agencies.

Adetuyi promised that the Nigerian Army particularly the 9 Brigade Command, would continue to render support where necessary to the activities of LASTMA on the road to ensure the safety of traffic managers in the discharge of their statutory duties.

Army officials in attendance include Major A. A Nasir (OC MP), Major A. Sanusi, Major A. A. Onwemene, Major A.K Ballo, and LT T.H Owoyemi while the LASTMA officials included the Director of Operations, Mr Peter Gbejemede, Provost Marshal Mr Apena Biliaminu, Head, Headquarters Operations (Rover) Mr Adeoye James, Head of LASTMA Training, Mr Macaulay Modupe-Ore, Head of Police Unit of LASTMA, CSP Ajibola Abayomi and Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.
