 Nigeria's Defence Minister Summons Service Chiefs Amid Surge in Attacks on Military Bases Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has urgently summoned the nation's top military leaders to a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja. The session addresses the escalating attacks targeting military installations, particularly in the North East region. The meeting includes key figures such as: - Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede - Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu - Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke - Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass - Representatives from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) The summons comes in response to recent deadly assaults by terrorists on military bases in the North East. DSS Raises Alarm Over Plot To Hijack NLC Protest

With less than 24-hours to the planned peaceful protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised alarm over alleged plots by some persons to stage violent protest to discredit the efforts of the federal government and security agencies.

On its X handle, the DSS said it has identified some politicians who are mobilising unsuspecting student leaders, youths and faith-based organisations for their violent actions.

The DSS has therefore warned the alleged plotters to desist or face the consequences of their actions.

The NLC had embarked in August this year embarked on a nationwide protest over the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

During that period, the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has ordered watertight security strategy across the country following the planned protest by the Organised Labour on Wednesday.

IGP Egbetokun also directed Commissioners of Police across all commands and supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to reach an agreement with the Union to ensure the protest is not hijacked my miscreants.
