 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. DSS Raises Alarm Over Plot To Hijack NLC Protest

With less than 24-hours to the planned peaceful protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised alarm over alleged plots by some persons to stage violent protest to discredit the efforts of the federal government and security agencies.

On its X handle, the DSS said it has identified some politicians who are mobilising unsuspecting student leaders, youths and faith-based organisations for their violent actions.

The DSS has therefore warned the alleged plotters to desist or face the consequences of their actions.

The NLC had embarked in August this year embarked on a nationwide protest over the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

During that period, the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has ordered watertight security strategy across the country following the planned protest by the Organised Labour on Wednesday.

IGP Egbetokun also directed Commissioners of Police across all commands and supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to reach an agreement with the Union to ensure the protest is not hijacked my miscreants.
