 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Northern Lawyers Forum Reacts To Killings At Tudun Biri Community


The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum has expressed worry over the recent airstrikes on innocent civilians which resulted to loss of many lives and others injured at Tudun Biri Community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.


Addressing newsmen on behalf of the forum, Barrister Nafi'u Abubakar expressed the resolve of the legal fraternity in Northern Nigeria to support the affected victims and their families, and to also ensure that justice is served, and rights of the victims are protected.


He appealed to the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive action to ensure a thorough and independent investigation into the incident, while preventive measures are put in place to forestall future re-occurrence of the incident.


Barrister Nafi'u Abubakar also called on the military to exercise utmost caution to avoid further instances of collateral damage and civilian casualties.


Also speaking, Barrister Aliyu Usman Hajji disclosed that over 600 Northern lawyers have volunteered to pursue legal action until justice is served to the Tudun Biri victims.


The forum extended its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and vowed to work tirelessly to pursue legal means to claim compensation owed to the victims.
