 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ZAMFARA GOVT TO SETTLE STUDENTS  FEES



Zamfara State Government has assured to pay all the registration fees of indigene students studying in various  tertiary institutions within and outside the state.


The State's Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology Alhaji Wadatau Madawaki gave the assurance in an interview with newsmen in Gusau the state capital.


Alhaji Wadatau Madawaki said efforts have been made by the state's ministry of justice in collaboration with the ministry of education, science and technology to ensure timely payment of the registration fees of the students whose were call to bar from the state.


He urged the twenty- five prospective Nigerian Law School Students who are indigenes of the State to remain calm as efforts are being made by the governor Dauda Lawal-led administration to pay their 2023/ 2024 registration fees.


The State Commissioner For Education also called on the students to be calm as government was making arrangements to pay their registration fees in line with the Dauda Lawal’s administration’s determination to provide quality education for youths in the State.


According to him, Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has planned to assist all students that are on Scholarship, including the law school students to enable them to pursue their education with ease and complete their studies.


The Commissioner further explained that, the Governor Dauda Lawal’s declaration of a "State of Emergency on Education" aimed at repositioning, and revamping the sector to provide quality education for all in the State was a demonstration that education is top on his priority.


It could be recalled that, the twenty five Indigenes of Zamfara State who are Prospective Students of the Nigerian Law School had in a Statement jointly signed by its Chairman and Secretary Mubasshir Gusau and Mahmud Sani-Kaura appealed for urgent intervention of  state government to pay their registration fees for the 2023/2024 registration.


The Students in the statement cried out that, more than 90 percent of the State indigenes who studied law, graduated from various universities and Called to Bar could not  pay the registration fees due to increase in the tuition fees, and the financial difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.
