 PRESS RELEASE:  ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR ABDUCTION AND DEFILEMENT OF A 14-YEAR-OLD The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public of a recent arrest concerning a case of abduction and defilement. On April 2, 2025, at approximately 3:20 am, operatives of the C4I Strike Force, while on a routine patrol along the Casablanca Axis, GRA Phase-2, Port Harcourt, apprehended one Emmanuel Godwin (male, 23 years old) of 25 Chinda Street, Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt. The suspect was found in the company of a minor, name withheld (female, 14 years old), of 11 Nwogu Martins Street, Chinda, Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to abducting the minor and detaining her in a room where three other individuals also engaged in unlawful acts with her for over a week.  Fuel Subsidy Is Back – Obasanjo


Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, revealed that fuel subsidy which was removed by the Federal Government in 2023 has been reintroduced due to inflation.


President Bola Tinubu during his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, had declared that fuel subsidy “is gone.”


The development has led to the increase of petrol price from about N200 to over N600 per litre.


In an interview with the Financial Times, Obasanjo faulted the manner in which the subsidy was removed by the government.


According to him, the government should have implemented some measures before the subsidy removal.


He, however, explained that the subsidy has “come back” due to the inflation rate.


“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Not just wake up one morning and say you removed the subsidy. Because of inflation, the subsidy that we have removed is not gone. It has come back,” Obasanjo said.


He also highlighted the need for investor confidence in Nigeria, stating, “You have to go from a transactional economy to a transformational economy.”


Daily Trust reports that some of the demands of the ongoing nationwide protest is reinstatement of the fuel subsidy regime.


But Tinubu, in his Sunday broadcast, ruled out possibility of returning fuel subsidy.


He described the decision to remove the fuel subsidy as painful but necessary, while arguing that it had been a “noose around the economic jugular of our Nation” and had hindered economic development and progress.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
