 Fire Razes Trucks at Kwara Park A fire outbreak at Alagbede Tipper Garage in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State early Tuesday morning destroyed three trucks out of 42 parked at the site. Reports indicate that the fire began around 1:45 a.m. from a waste collection truck containing refuse, which ignited and spread to two other trucks before firefighters managed to contain it. Confirming the incident, Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, stated, “The fire service received a distress call at 1:35 a.m. and promptly responded. Thanks to the firefighters’ swift intervention, the fire was contained, limiting damage to just three trucks.” Preliminary findings revealed that smoldering charcoal in the refuse truck caused the ignition. Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Monday, a shop at No. 1 Awolowo Road, Tanke, Ilorin, was gutted by fire. Firefighters contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops.  Sao Tome and Principe president dismisses government


Sao Tome and Principe's president has dismissed the government over an "inability" to resolve problems facing the African state and "frequent" absences by the prime minister, AFP reported.


The decision by President Carlos Vila Nova was announced in a decree dated Monday and published on the presidency's Facebook page.


It highlighted a "notable inability" by Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada's government "to provide solutions" to the country in the face of "the scale of existing problems."


It also pointed to "frequent and prolonged periods of absence by the prime minister... from the national territory."


Seventy-two hours to replace PM


Both the president and premier are members of the centre-right Independent Democratic Action (ADI) party, which won parliamentary elections in 2022.


The party has 72 hours to propose a replacement as prime minister, the decree said.


Sao Tome, a former Portuguese colony in the Gulf of Guinea that gained independence in 1975, has a history of coup attempts.


In November 2022, Trovoada announced the army had thwarted a coup.


Multiparty system


That followed attempted coups in 2003 and 2009, after which the country stabilised and won praise for its political stability and parliamentary democracy.


Since the archipelago opened up to a multiparty system in 1991 after 15 years of single-party rule by a Marxist regime, the ADI is one of two major parties that have vied to run the nation of around 200,000 inhabitants.


In May last year, Portugal said it was "greatly concerned" by reports that Sao Tome and Principe had signed a military cooperation accord with Russia.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
