By Nonye Muo/Nwanneka Okechukwu

Anambra State Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has joined forces with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu Depot unit, to crack down on petrol stations with tampered meters and adulterated products.

The partnership was formalized when IPMAN's Enugu Depot unit delegation met with the commissioner,  Anthony Ifeanya (Esq) at his office in Awka. Members of IPMAN Enugu Depot unit covering nine states: Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Cross River, Benue, and parts of Kogi were led by their chairman, Mr. Chinedu Anyaso,

Speaking, Mr. Anyaso, disclosed that they came to register their displeasure over what he described as multiple taxation on their members by government after paying the yearly agreed N120, 000  consolidated levies by each filling station.

He expressed his disappointment that after their members payed the agreed consolidated levies into government coffers, some government agencies still come back to harras them, demanding payment of one tax, levy or the other, and called for ways to streamline their payments to be one.

The commissioner while responding to the concerns raised by the IPMAN delegation, acknowledged that the government is already aware of their claims. He assured them that he had discussed the issue during the Anambra State Government's beginning-of-the-year retreat and was committed to finding a lasting solution soon.

He requested that IPMAN provide his ministry with a list of all functional filling stations in the state to  enable the ministry build a comprehensive database.
