BUK Land Dispute: No Land Is Worth a Human Life – Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for peace and patience following a deadly clash over land ownership between residents of Rimin Zakara and Bayero University, Kano (BUK). The dispute resulted in multiple fatalities.

During a visit to the affected area after returning from pilgrimage, Emir Sanusi offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the injured. He urged residents to avoid violence and allow legal processes to determine ownership.

Sanusi emphasized that both the community and BUK claim legal rights to the land, stressing the importance of an evidence-based resolution through the courts and dialogue. He announced plans to form a committee with representatives from the state government, BUK, security agencies, and community leaders to seek a peaceful settlement.

“No land or property is worth the loss of a human life,” the Emir stated, calling for unity and justice.

The crisis escalated when security forces allegedly fired on protesters, killing four and injuring several others during the demolition of buildings on the disputed land. The state government has promised an investigation into the incident.
