Fayose Commends Tinubu’s Economic Stabilization Efforts After Lagos Visit

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its efforts in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy during a visit to the president’s Lagos residence on Monday night.

Speaking to journalists after the personal visit, Fayose acknowledged the challenges of economic recovery, stating, “No one is saying it is easy, but there is no miracle that can turn around things overnight.” He commended Tinubu for taking bold steps to stabilize the economy, including policies like the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, despite widespread criticism over rising living costs.

“But for the little the president has done, we must commend him,” Fayose said, emphasizing that the administration’s reforms offer hope for Nigeria’s future. He contrasted the current situation with the previous administration, which he had criticized, noting, “You cannot compare the situation now.”

Fayose, who expressed support for Tinubu’s leadership even during his tenure as a PDP governor, urged Nigerians to encourage the president’s efforts. “The only thing we can do as leaders of this country today is to continue to encourage him to lift up his hands, to make the public understand how uneasy it is to lead an economy that is down and today is being stabilized,” he said.

Despite his praise for Tinubu, Fayose reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating, “Ayo Fayose will not move from PDP to any political party, not even APC. I am 65 years old this year. It is within the choices of those who are choosing to move.”

The former governor’s remarks highlight a rare cross-party endorsement of Tinubu’s economic policies, which he believes are laying the foundation for long-term stability.
