NYCN Kajuru Condemns Personality Attacks, Calls For Issues-Based Campaigns Ahead Of Chikun-Kajuru By-Elections
As political activities heat up ahead of the Chikun-Kajuru Federal Constituency by-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kajuru Branch, has raised concerns over the growing trend of personality attacks and online mudslinging among supporters of various candidates.
In a statement signed by Shariason Adamu Abednego, made available to KADUNA POLITICAL AFFAIRS, the council expressed disappointment over the use of social media platforms to engage in character assassination rather than promoting meaningful discourse on policy and development.
"While we acknowledge the enthusiasm and passion of supporters, we strongly believe that this election should be about issues, policies, and the future of our constituency, rather than personal attacks and character assassination," the statement read.
The NYCN has called on all candidates and their supporters to engage in issues-based campaigns, emphasizing their vision, mission, and strategies for the development of the constituency.
The group also urged all political actors to avoid politics of bitterness and to foster a peaceful and respectful electoral environment.
In addition, the NYCN acknowledged the long-standing demands by the youth of Kajuru Local Government Area for fairness and equity in political representation. It commended political parties for granting party flags to Kajuru aspirants, describing the move as a positive response to previous calls for inclusion.
"We sincerely appreciate the strong political parties for granting Kajuru aspirants the parties’ flags as an honour to earlier requests. We also wish to congratulate all aspirants on their emergence as flag bearers after the primary elections," the council stated.
As the election date approaches, the NYCN is calling on the youth of Kajuru to turn out in large numbers and participate actively in the voting process on August 16.
Key Demands from NYCN Kajuru:
A shift toward issues-based campaigns focusing on vision and development plans.
A commitment to a peaceful and respectful electoral process, free of personality attacks.
Fairness and equity in political engagement, particularly regarding youth representation.
The NYCN concluded by urging all stakeholders to work together to ensure the by-election is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, allowing the most capable candidate to emerge based on merit and a clear vision for the future.
