Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  FCT Minister Wike Announces End of Rivers State Emergency on September 18

Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced that the state of emergency in Rivers will be lifted on September 18, 2025. Wike made the statement on Saturday, August 30, 2025, after casting his vote during the ongoing local government elections across the state.

Speaking to journalists at his polling booth, Wike explained that the emergency measures, implemented earlier this year to stabilize the state, would be lifted following a comprehensive review of the security situation. He described the development as a positive step toward restoring normalcy in Rivers State.

Wike highlighted that the current elections mark the first legitimate grassroots polls in years, referencing a Supreme Court ruling that declared the previous local government election under Governor Siminalayi Fubara illegal. “What we are doing now is a proper democratic exercise, and that is why you can see the enthusiasm, particularly in the rural areas,” he said.

Commenting on voter turnout, Wike noted strong participation in rural communities but lower engagement in commercial centers, attributing this to traders prioritizing economic activities over voting. He emphasized that the electoral process reflects the will of the people and demonstrates Rivers State’s commitment to deepening democracy.

The presidency has yet to comment on Wike’s announcement regarding the lifting of the state of emergency on September 18.
