Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  LSWMO OPENS ZONAL OFFICE TO SCALE UP OPERATIONS


In a decisive move to deepen service delivery and strengthen regulatory oversight across high-density commercial districts, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has announced the opening of a new Zonal Office at Iru-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area.


The new office is strategically positioned to improve operational response time, enhance compliance monitoring, and foster closer engagement with corporate organisations, hospitality establishments, facility managers and residents within the business district and its adjoining corridors.


Speaking on the inauguration, the General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi described the development as a critical step in advancing safe, sustainable and regulated wastewater management in Lagos State.


He noted that as a rapidly expanding commercial hub with increasing wastewater generation, Victoria Island, Iru and Eti-Osa require stronger institutional presence to ensure adherence to environmental standards and the State’s sanitation laws.


According to him, the establishment of the zonal office will strengthen enforcement of wastewater regulations, improve monitoring of septic systems and treatment facilities and enhance collaboration with non-state actors and private sector operators.


“It will further strengthen our compliance framework by enabling faster response to environmental complaints and infractions, tightening supervision of wastewater discharge activities, and ensuring strict adherence to sanitation and environmental regulations within the zone”, he added.


Engr. Afolabi acknowledged that effective wastewater governance in a megacity like Lagos demands decentralised operations, data-driven monitoring and proactive stakeholder engagement.


He reiterated that the Office remains committed to protecting public health, preventing pollution of water bodies and safeguarding the environment for present and future generations.


The Zonal Office is expected to serve as a model for improved field coordination and institutional efficiency as LSWMO continues to expand its footprint across the State.
