Nadia Fares has died at the age of 57 following a medical emergency at a luxury gym in Paris.
The actress was found unconscious in a swimming pool at a high end fitness club in the Blanche and Montmartre area on April 11. She had reportedly been swimming laps when she suddenly lost consciousness.
According to the prosecutor’s office, she was discovered at the bottom of the pool and was found in a position resembling a yoga posture. Another swimmer at the facility immediately began CPR before emergency services arrived.
She was rushed to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma. Despite medical efforts, she later suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away on Friday.
Her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, confirmed the news in a statement, describing her loss as deeply personal and heartbreaking.
“It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Fares this Friday,” they said. “France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother we have just lost.”
Nadia shared her two daughters with her former husband, American film producer Steve Chasman. The couple married in 2002 and separated four years ago.
In earlier interviews, she spoke about the importance of family, especially after moving to Los Angeles with her husband years ago, where she focused on building a home life.
She had recently returned to France after spending time in the United States and was preparing for a new creative chapter.
Nadia was set to direct her first film later this year. Speaking earlier in January, she expressed excitement about the project, saying she had gathered a strong team and was working on an action comedy in collaboration with Studios TF1.
Her career in film and television stretched back decades. She first gained international attention in 2001 for her role in the thriller The Crimson Rivers.
Born in Morocco, she moved to the south of France as a child. She began acting in the 1990s, landing early television roles before rising to wider recognition with projects such as “Elles n'oublient jamais.”
Beyond her career achievements, Nadia also faced serious health challenges. In 2007, she underwent brain surgery for an aneurysm, which she once described as a “time bomb” that required urgent treatment.
She later revealed she had also gone through multiple heart surgeries over a four year period.
