POWA PRESIDENT CONDUCTS SURPRISE WELFARE OUTREACH IN ABUJA BARRACKS
The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, carried out unannounced welfare visits to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory on 14–15 July 2026, ahead of the forthcoming POWA National Convention.
The outreach covered Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and 44 PMF Barracks, Kuje. Moving through the markets at Area C Barracks without prior notice, the POWA President and her management team engaged directly with women traders, widows, and spouses of officers. She observed sparsely stocked shops and listened to firsthand accounts of the economic challenges confronting police families.
Immediate interventions included cash grants, business starter packs, and food items for selected beneficiaries to restock shops and strengthen household resilience. Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the timely support.
In her remarks, Chief Mrs. Disu emphasized that the visit was deliberately unannounced to capture an authentic picture of the realities confronting police families. She noted that only by witnessing these challenges firsthand can POWA design and deliver support that truly addresses their needs.
The outreach was conducted under the POWA CARES Initiative, which promotes sustainable healthcare, welfare, and economic empowerment for police families. The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON.
This effort also sets the tone for the upcoming POWA National Convention, themed “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace”, scheduled for 16–18 July 2026. The convention will focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment, and family support systems.
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to practical, dignity-preserving support for widows of fallen officers and families of serving personnel.
