CHAIRMAN COUNCIL OF NIGERIA LEGION APPEALS FOR PATIENCE AS VETERANS AWAIT WELFARE ENTITLEMENTS

The National Chairman, Council of Nigeria legion and Commandant Corp of commissioners, Grace Morenike Henry, has appealed to veterans of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain patient with the Federal Government over outstanding entitlements and approved pension increases. The appeal follows the decision by veterans to call off their planned public protest, with the Legion commending them for their peaceful and mature conduct.

Morenike Henry said the Federal Government has assured veterans that outstanding entitlements and approved pension increases will be fully paid. She stressed that government holds the welfare of veterans in high esteem and is working to resolve the administrative processes necessary to ensure that all benefits due to them are cleared.

The National Chairman also disclosed that efforts are underway to improve the healthcare of war-wounded veterans through strategic partnerships and international support. She said interventions are being put in place to provide prosthetic limbs for amputees, hearing aids for those with auditory impairments, corrective eye surgeries and wheelchairs and other mobility aids for physically challenged veterans.

While acknowledging the sacrifices veterans made for the peace and security of Nigeria, Ms Henry urged them to remain disciplined, orderly and law-abiding, in line with their military training.

She cautioned veterans against allowing their community to be used to cause civil unrest, assuring them that relief is on the way and appealing for continued loyalty, patience and understanding.
