 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. FREE REGISTRATION FOR MOTORCYCLE,TRICYCLE ETC TO COMMENCE 1ST OF AUGUST IN ANAMBRA STATE.

                  From the 1st of August,the Anambra state Government will commence free registration and issuance of identity cards for all commercial and private motorcycles and vehicles as well as boats and canoes operating in the state.In a statement issued by Dr {Mrs} Uju Nwogu,Hon.Commissioner for Information,Culture and Tourism,the state government will also commence the free distribution of branded bibs or vests to all motorcycle riders and life jackets to all commuters using boats and canoes as means of transport in the riverine communities of the state.Venue for the registration is headquarters of 21 local government areas of the state..''Government wishes to use the opportunity of this announcement to inform the public particularly commercial and private motorcycle operators that the order on compulsory use of crash helmet is still in force.The use of life jackets and vests is also compulsory for all commuters using canoes and boats as means of transport .Government also by this announcement,advises mothers traveling with their children to avoid using motorcycles but to enter tricycles,.taxis or buses to ensure their safety.Violators of these directives would have themselves to blame as law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance''.
