 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.        Governor Samuel Ortom has stated that he remains firm and committed to the security of lives and property of Benue people.
He stated this yesterday at Catholic Youth Center Makurdi during the dedication of Lutor Samuel Isho Adanyi by the family of Chief Benjamin Adanyi, Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly.Governor Ortom said much progress had been recorded on the need for ranching of livestock as being championed by his administration especially with prominent Nigerians condemning the wanton killings in the country by Fulani herdsmen.
He stated that God had heard the prayers of Benue people and expressed hope that the displaced persons would soon return to their homes to continue with their normal activities.
The Governor also noted that the problem of payment of salaries would soon become a thing of the past as regular payments had commenced since the beginning of the year, stressing that money would be sourced and arrears cleared.
He prayed that the dedicated child who bears the same name with him would grow under the fear and protection of God and be successful in life.
In a remark, Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, Chief Benjamin Adanyi expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Master Lutor Samuel Adanyi, saying he returned God's gift to Him with thanksgiving.
In a sermon, Rev. Fr. Celestine Tyowua advised Christians to humble themselves and trust in God and they would never be disappointed.Governor Ortom, accompanied by the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and other top government functionaries participated in the Palm Sunday procession which ushered in the church service.More photos below.
