The Supreme Court has will today review its judgment on the Imo State gubernatorial elections which removed Chief Emeka Ihedioha as Governor of the state and declared Sen. Hope Uzodima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner.
A full panel of 7 justices led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Mohammed, is expected to carry out the long-awaited review which could set new precedents on electoral jurisprudence in the country. Other members of the panel are:
Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun,
Justice John Inyang Okoro, Justice Amina Adamu Augie and Justice Abba Aji.
The apex court had on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, delivered a unanimous judgement that Ihedioha who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was not duly elected, a decision which has set tongues wagging as the country's legal system has barely had any such precedence.
Meanwhile, security at all entry points to the Supreme Court was beefed up Tuesday morning to prevent supporters of both parties from accessing and crowding the premises, as police turned persons with no valid identification back. One more photo below.
