 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. SPORTS MINISTER INAUGURATES STEERING COMMITTEE+CHARGES MEMBERS TO UNLOCK THE POTENTIALS OF SPORTS INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare, has inaugurated a Steering Committee of the Sports Industry Working Group (SIWG), at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The Committee which is a Public Private Dialogue (PPD) platform is charged with the mandate to create effective synergy and ensure a close working relationship between the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).
The Minister stated that the Steering Committee will work together to create advantageous environment and have proper policy in place to drive investments, incentives and also drive infrastructural development through sports.
He reminded the Committee that the Nigerian Sports Sector and indeed all Nigerians, look forward to the needed transformation in the Sports Industry, adding that, the whole process would bring about the foundational structure needed, to develop sports in Nigeria.
In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and Co- Chairman (Public Sector), Sports Industry Working Group ( SIWG), Mr. Gabriel Aduda, welcomed members of the newly inaugurated Committee, to what he termed "as another phase of sports development in Nigeria".
He stressed that the Public Private Partnership in the Sports Industry will not only address the challenges faced in sports but will also, make Nigeria compete favourably and globally.
The Co-chairman (Private Sector) of the Steering Committee, ( SIWG), Mr Ufot Udeme, in his speech, affirmed that indeed the Ministry and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group was making history, as both Public And Private Sectors team up to turn the Sports Industry economically for national growth and development.
He also promised that the Private Sector was committed to playing its own part in Sports Industrialisation Agenda through investments into key infrastructure that would trigger the development of the ancillary sector of the industry, stressing that streams of revenue, job creation and socio- economic development attained through sports in any country, would be achieved.
Mr. Ufot believes that the event would metamorphose into a retreat session in order to achieve fruitful and robust discussions to chart a way forward to the next level of national aspirations for sports development.
The event was graced by the Directorate Cadre from the Ministry and Members of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group ( NESG).
