 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ACTDA Intensifies Raid Against Illegal Trading, Removes Shanties In Parts Of Awka




Officials ofAwka Capital Territory Development Authority have embarked on the demolition of street shanties and illegal stores defacing the Capital City. 


The areas visited by the agency's officials were Ngozika Estate road, Club road, formerly Abakillki street, as well as Oby Okoli avenue.


Speaking during the raid, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Ossy Onuko, disclosed that the operation will be a sustained effort in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's agenda of making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland.


Mr. Onuko regretted that despite the numerous warnings by the agency and other agencies of governmemts, traders have continued to construct shanties and trade along road sides, and warned that ACTDA will continue to wage war against all manners of impunity in the capital territory.


According to the ACTDA boss, they will continue to discharge their duty without fear or favour and warned against all forms of street trading, erection of shanties and building on top of water channels.


Recall that Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Information, made a public announcement banning all forms of indiscriminate street trading and building of shanties across the state..
