 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. FG URGED TO STOP CASUALIZATION OF WORKERS. (PHOTO).





 FG urged to stop casualization of workers 


 The federal government has been urged to redirect  its policies towards curtailing casualization or contract staffing employment in the country. 


Speaking during the third quadrennial national delegates' conference, of  members of Chemicals and Non metallic Product, held in Ilorin, the national president of the group, Comrade Segun David, described casual work as often temporary, without job security.


The labour leader, said the issue can be checkmated through collaboration with the organized labour, and the civil society organizations.


He said the  growth in irregular work has changed the nature of employment from a labour relationship to a commercial relationship ,with the worker taking all the risks. 


Comrade David explained that the owners  of the business wants to cut costs by all means , adding that  the human capital is treated as mere robots.


He also appealed to  government to check  the high rate of unemployment in the country.


Comrade David maintained that the  challenges of National Development is to manage the economy  and  promote job-led growth rather than the present situation of jobless growth.


The labour leader advised the present administration to  consider various windows of opportunities that will be attractive to business environment and encourage

industrialization for the organized private sector to partner in the provision and expansion of infrastructures at all levels to enable it rise to the occasion and drive the process of employment generation.END
