 Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters ​from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Bamako and around a large military base outside the capital, as well as Gao and central areas, as gunfire continuing in the northern city of Kidal. NIGERIA TARGETS 750,000 METRIC TONNES OF COCOA IN 10 YEARS 



Federal Government is targeting to raise the production of Cocoa to 750,000 metric tonnes by the year 2032.


Currently, the production of Cocoa has been pegged at 340,000 thousand below Ghana and Ivory Coast who jointly produce about 60% of the crop globally.


The Ministry of Trade and Investment stated that the goal is to be achieved by a 10-year roadmap which have been developed by stakeholders in the Cocoa production.


The representative of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry of Trade and Investment, Tuayeringha Gana who stated this at a stakeholders forum on the implementation of the 10 years National Cocoa Plan (2023-2032) in Abuja, said the target was in line with the global Cocoa agenda.


The Minister of Agricultural and Food Security, represented by a Deputy Director in the ministry, Ajayi Olutobaba said a National Cocoa Management Committee was recently inaugurated to see to the establishment of the National Cocoa Management Commission.


According to Mr Olutobaba, the national coordinating body is expected to guarantee sustainability of the Cocoa value chain in the country and ensure that Nigeria’s Cocoa production meets international demands.


Mr Emmanuel Enang who represented the Director-General of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), said the forum also aimed at addressing the challenges plaguing Cocoa production in the country such as climate change, poor seedlings and lack of funding.


The forum had in attendance representatives from the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM BANK), Nigeria Customs Service, Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria (FACAN) and the Cocoa Association of Nigeria
