 Tragedy in Lagos: Two Dead After Machete-Wielding Attacker Storms Lekki IMAX Cinema A horrific incident unfolded at the Filmhouse IMAX Cinema in the upscale Lekki area of Lagos State on Friday night, August 29, leaving two people dead following a violent confrontation with an armed intruder. Violent Confrontation at Cinema Entrance According to eyewitness accounts, a man armed with a machete and a knife attempted to force his way into the cinema premises. Onlookers reported that the assailant appeared to be highly intoxicated or under the influence of substances. When vigilant security personnel stationed at the entrance intercepted him to prevent entry, a violent scuffle ensued. Fatal Stabbing and Subsequent Mob Action The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, confirmed the tragic details of the encounter.  Ibadan residents protest hardship under Tinubu


Some Nigerians in Oyo State, South-West Nigeria are currently protesting the high cost of living, food inflation and economic hardship in the country. 


Recall that Nigerians have continued to face various degrees of economics hardships since President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of petrol subsidy on May 29, 2023.


Staged in the Mokola area of Ibadan, the state capital, placard-carrying youths in their numbers chanting songs to drive home their points.


Some of the placards have inscriptions such as ‘No more Emilokan’, ‘End food hike and inflation’, ‘The poor is starving’, ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises’, amongst others.


Armed policemen were seen at the protest scene even as demonstrators held the peaceful rally against the economic hardship in the land occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange windows.


The police had warned that no breach of peace would be allowed during any protest in the state.


The protest in Oyo followed others in Kano, Minna, amongst others, over economic hardship occasioned by petrol subsidy removal, food inflation, and high cost of living.
