Katsina defends release of 70 bandits The Katsina State Government has justified its plan to facilitate the release of 70 persons facing trial for alleged involvement in banditry, describing it as part of efforts towards consolidating peace deals with armed groups operating across the state. The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, said the decision was aimed at sustaining peace accords reached between affected communities and “repentant bandits.” The commissioner explained this in an interview with DCL Hausa on Saturday amid public outrage over a leaked government letter seeking judicial intervention to secure the release of the suspects currently undergoing prosecution. He said the peace agreements had resulted in the release of about 1,000 abducted persons across several communities. A WOMAN SEEKS HUSBAND'S RELEASE AFTER HE RAPED THEIR 7-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER. (PHOTOS).

'I can't raise the children alone' Woman seeks husband's release over raping seven-year-old daughter

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bright Edafe, recounted an incident where a mother whose seven-year-old child was allegedly sexually assaulted by her husband pleaded for his release.

He made this known on his X page on Sunday, where he claimed a woman cried for her husband's release from serving life imprisonment over the assault of his daughter.

He stated that she pleaded for his release because she felt unable to raise their children alone.

He wrote, "A father defiled his seven-year-old daughter. Guess what happened? It was the mother of the girl and the wife of the father who came begging and crying for the husband to be released because the punishment is life imprisonment.

"And she cannot raise the children alone. Trust my boss; he vehemently declined that request.

"Parents at times go behind and collect money from the family of the suspects and come back with an affidavit to withdraw the case.

"The command is making it clear now that offences of rape and defilement are not compoundable, and as such, any form of withdrawal by either the victim or the family will not be tolerated; they may even be charged alongside the rapist.".
