 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Ramadan: Governor Sule’s Aide, Man Pikin Distributes Rice To Indigent Muslims

A grassroots politician, Alhaji Ahmad Ari Maina on Sunday distributed bags of rice to over 1,000 indigent Muslims across the Nasarawa to enable them observe this year’s Ramadan with ease. 


Mr Maina popularly known as Man Pikin  distributed the rice worth millions of naira at his residence in Lafia amid the economic hardship in the country. 


The grassroots politician currently serves Governor Abdullahi Sule as the Special Assistant on Political Affairs. 


Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed Muslim Ummah to start searching for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH from Sunday.


Mr Abubakar made the call in a statement signed by Professor Sambo Janaidu, the chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, and made available to newsmen in the state on Saturday.


“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Sunday, March 10th, which is equivalent to 29th day of Sha’aban 1445 AH shall be the day to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1445 AH.


“Muslim are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Ramadan 1445 AH on Sunday and report, when cited, to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan,” the statement reads.


The Sultan of Sokoto offered prayers to Allah for continued support to all Muslims in the fulfillment of their religious obligations.


Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, signifies a month-long period of fasting, one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
