 China, Russia, Iran warships arrive in South Africa for military exercises Chinese, Russian and Iranian warships arrived in South African waters for a week of naval drills starting Friday off the coast of Cape Town. The Chinese-led drills were organized last year under the BRICS bloc of developing nations and South Africa's armed forces said they will bring members of the bloc together to practice maritime safety and anti-piracy operations and “deepen cooperation.” China, Russia and South Africa are longtime members of BRICS, while Iran joined the group in 2024. It was not immediately clear if other countries from the BRICS group — which also includes Brazil, India and the United Arab Emirates among others — would take part in the drills. A spokesperson for the South African armed forces said he wasn't yet able to confirm all the countries participating in the drills, which are due to run until next Friday. LASG SET TO REMOVE SHANTIES, ILLEGAL STRUCTURES AROUND JAKANDE ESTATE, MAIYEGUN AXIS. (PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE


 Lagos set to remove shanties built around Jakandle Estate and mayegun axis of Ajah Lagos.


The Lagos State government is set to remove shanties and all illegal structures erected around the jakande estate and Mayegun axis, Ajah Lagos.


The Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS and Urban development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde disclosed this on Sunday during an inspection of the area.


He decried the level of distortion of the area with the erection of shanties and illegal structures defacing boundaries of Jakande estate and the adjoining roads,, setbacks and drainage alignments especially the planned Lagos to Calabar  coastal highway project.


He advised occupants  of the shanties and illegal structures to vacate immiediately as government  will not give further notice before removal of the structures.


He said "removal notices had been served severally on the occupants of these shanties but they have remained adamant. You can see that some of them have started removing the illegal structures themselves but I will implore those yet to comply to do so immiediately as removal of these illegal structures begins today"


On the inspection tour of the mayegun/ Jakande estate axis includes the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Engr. Sodeinde Nurudeen, General Manager of the State Building Control Agency, Arc Gbolahan Owodunni Oki as well as security details and media representatives.
