Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  NYSC Portal Crash: Prospective corps members stranded in Cross River

In a state of disarray and confusion, thousands of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members find themselves stranded in Cross River State, unable to proceed with their registration due to the sudden crash of the registration portal, which occurred on Saturday night.

The NYSC portal, which was opened on June 8, 2024, crashed less than 12 hours later, leaving aspiring corps members perplexed and unable to enroll.

Two days after the crash, on June 10, 2024, the NYSC headquarters issued a statement of apology, shedding light on the cause of the portal’s disruption.

According to the statement, the crash was attributed to a “conflict on link in between NIMC access to NYSC’s database,” leading to a system disruption.

The statement, addressing critical stakeholders, accredited NYSC Cyber Café Operators (CBOs), and prospective corps members, explained the technical intricacies behind the breakdown and outlined the measures being taken to rectify the situation.

“We have reviewed the situation and narrowed the cause of breakdown to conflict on the link between NIMC access to our database containing sensitive user profile information,” the statement read.

It further assured stakeholders that the technical crew was actively working on resolving the issue and implementing additional changes to the technical infrastructure to prevent further complications.

In light of the disruption, the NYSC announced the temporary disablement of access to batch “B” PCM (Prospective Corps Members) registration to avoid technical irregularities.

While expressing regret for the incident and apologizing to all affected parties, the NYSC promised to extend the registration period once technical issues were resolved.

As of Monday evening, the portal remained inaccessible, leaving many prospective corps members in limbo, unable to proceed with their enrollment.
