Texas woman charged with medical child abuse for falsifying toddler’s health and pushing unnecessary feeding tube surgeries A Texas woman has been charged with medical child abuse after allegedly falsifying her toddler’s medical history to pressure doctors into performing unnecessary procedures, including feeding tube surgeries, in what authorities are calling a “sickening” case. Kaitlyn Rose Laura, 31, faces charges of injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officials said she deliberately misled medical staff about her 3-year-old son’s health to obtain a gastrostomy tube and later a gastrojejunostomy tube, despite no documented medical need. Investigators allege that hospital staff observed the boy eating normally while Laura claimed he refused all food. Covert surveillance confirmed the child was able to eat meals without difficulty, prompting authorities to stop tube feedings.  Madagascar to receive remains from ex-colonial ruler France

The culture ministers of France and Madagascar on Thursday took the first step toward repatriating human remains taken from the Indian Ocean island while under French colonial rule, AFP reported.

A joint scientific committee will review Madagascar's request that France return the skull of King Toera, beheaded by troops during the early days of colonisation.

The review is the first of its kind since France voted in December 2023 to facilitate the restitution of human remains held in its public collections.

"France wants to respond to this expectation," Culture Minister Rachida Dati told reporters, hailing a "historic moment" alongside her Madagascan counterpart Volamiranty Donna Mara.

'Of crucial importance'

These remains are "of crucial importance" to the Malagasy people, Mara said.

Madagascar declared independence in 1960 after more than 60 years of French colonial rule.

The committee will issue an opinion to the French government, which will then decide on returning King Toera's remains and those of two chiefs from Madagascar's Sakalava ethnic group, all currently held in the country's natural history museum in Paris.

France has voted on several laws in recent years aimed at returning artefacts held in its museums to their original countries or owners.
