Abia Government Blames Politicians for Rising Crime Wave, Vows Strong Action

The Abia State Government has raised an alarm over the surge in violence and crime in the state, linking the unrest to unpatriotic politicians collaborating with external parties. The government claims these individuals are behind the deadly attacks on security agents and civilians since May 2024.

According to the state authorities, intelligence gathered from concerned citizens and credible sources reveals that the primary goal of these individuals is to create chaos, distract the government, and undermine its focus on state development.

Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti, made these revelations in a press statement issued on Monday. He emphasized that the state government would not succumb to intimidation or blackmail by any group or individual.

Ekeoma stated, “The individuals behind the attacks on security forces, civilians, and the kidnappings aimed at creating fear and instability should be aware that the government will use all its power and resources to track them down and hold them accountable.”

The government also announced the launch of a new counteroffensive to dismantle criminal networks and terror groups operating in Abia. It urged citizens to avoid harboring strangers and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities to prevent becoming victims themselves.

The statement called for greater cooperation between the public, security agencies, and traditional leaders in eradicating criminal elements. Traditional rulers were also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.

Recent incidents of violence include the killing of three military officers in Umuahia, the abduction of a politician in the state capital, and the snatching of a tricycle at gunpoint. On Monday, an attack on the convoy of House of Representatives member Ginger Onwusibe resulted in the death of a policeman, adding to the growing list of criminal activities.
