The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. MUMBAI POLICE HAVE ARRESTED THE BOYFRIEND OF A 25-YEAR-OLD AIR INDIAN PILOT 'SRISHTI TULI, WHO WAS FOUND HANGING IN HER FLAT IN MAROL. (PHOTO).

Mumbai police have arrested the boyfriend of a 25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, who was found hanging in her flat in Marol.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, prompting authorities to take Aditya Pandit, 27, into custody on charges of abetment to suicide. According to an official from the Powai police station, Tuli was originally from Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Mumbai for work since June last year.

Tuli and Pandit had been in a relationship since they met during a commercial pilot training course in Delhi two years ago. On the day of the incident, Pandit received a call from Tuli while he was en route to Delhi. She reportedly told him about her intention to take her own life. Rushing back to Mumbai, Pandit found her flat locked from the inside. With the help of a key maker, he entered and discovered her hanging with a data cable.

The young pilot was immediately taken to Seven Hills Hospital, where she was declared dead. No suicide note was found at the scene. Following the incident, Tuli’s uncle filed a police complaint alleging that Pandit harassed and humiliated her on multiple occasions. He also claimed that Pandit pressured Tuli to change her dietary habits, including giving up non-vegetarian food.

Based on the complaint, Pandit was arrested under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with abetment of suicide. He was presented in court and remanded to police custody for four days as the investigation continues. The tragic case has drawn attention to the emotional struggles faced by young professionals and the importance of addressing harassment in relationships.
