 Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. In October, Niger renamed several historic sites in its capital Niamey which previously bore references to old colonial master France. ONDO ELECTIONS: DIG ELECTIONS INSPECTS POLLING UNITS, COLLATION CENTRES, AS POLLS WIND DOWN.


Charges Officers on Vigilance, Safety Protocols.


As the polls draw to a close, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Ondo State Gubernatorial Elections, DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, fdc, has conducted series of rigorous inspections of polling units and collation centres aimed at ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. 


These inspections aim to guarantee that all voting materials are accounted for, and that the counting and collation of votes are conducted in a fair and orderly manner.


The DIG further charged the officers deployed for election security to ensure a constant state of vigilance, restricting any unauthorized movement of persons in and out of the collation centres. Officers are to emplace strict safety protocols to prevent any potential disruptions or irregularities that could compromise the integrity of the elections.


The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to emplacing adequate security measures to ensure the electoral process is conducted free and fair. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., further assures members of the public, particularly the good citizens of Ondo State, of the highest standard of security throughout the electoral process and even afterwards.
