 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday decorated Acting chief of army staff, Major General Olufemi Oluyede with the new rank of Lieutenant General.


Tinubu Promotes Acting COAS Oluyede To Lieutenant General Rank


President Bola Tinubu has promoted the acting Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Olufemi Oluyede, to Lt, General.


The President decorated Oluyede with his new rank conferring effective command authority on him in the Nigerian Army in a short ceremony at the President’s office, Aso Rock, Abuja.


Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement on Tuesday that the President assured the military that his government would always listen to their advice and keep the country on the path of peace and prosperity.


He also commended the military for its unwavering courage, dedication, and patriotism in maintaining the nation’s security.


The President said for while the country is facing challenges progress is being made.


The President attributed the success recorded in tackling terrorism and banditry to the “synergy’’ in the armed forces and urged the service chiefs to sustain harmony in their relationship for the betterment of the country.


Lt. Gen. Oluyede expressed deep gratitude and acknowledged the solemnity of the occasion. He reiterated his commitment to upholding the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and to maintaining peace across the country.
