 501 Blind Candidates to Sit 2025 UTME — Okebukola Chairman of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), Prof. Peter Okebukola, has announced that 501 blind candidates will take the 2025 UTME across 11 centres nationwide on April 28–29. Okebukola confirmed that the candidates will write the same exams as others without lowered standards. He also revealed that 84 SSCE-qualified blind candidates will have their registration fees refunded on-site. Since 2017, JAMB has supported blind candidates with free accommodation, meals, transport aid, and exam materials under the leadership of Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede. This year’s exam will feature two formats: Fully-Braille and Fully Read-Aloud. Lagos and Kano have the highest number of blind candidates, with experienced professors coordinating the centres.

 ALGON Decries Suspension of Edo LGA Chairmen, Calls It a Setback to Democracy


The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has strongly condemned the suspension of 18 local government chairmen and councillors in Edo State by the State House of Assembly, labeling it a setback for democracy.


In a statement issued by ALGON’s National Publicity Secretary, Hamisu M. Anani, the organization’s National Executive Council and Board of Trustees expressed disapproval of the action taken after Governor Monday Okpebholo accused the chairmen of defying his orders by failing to submit their financial records to the state government.


ALGON argued that the suspension is an abuse of power, particularly since the chairmen were not allowed an opportunity to defend themselves. The association further contended that the decision is invalid, as it contradicts the Supreme Court's ruling granting local governments autonomy.


The move has sparked widespread criticism across the country, with many deeming it unconstitutional, null, and void. ALGON has called on the Governor and State Assembly to reverse the suspension and uphold the rule of law to strengthen democratic governance.


The association also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and prevent further abuse of power, stressing the importance of respecting the constitutional autonomy of local governments.
