Early Morning Fire Claims Lives of Customs Officer, Wife, and Four Children in Osun

A tragic fire in the early hours of Monday in Ede, Osun State, claimed the lives of six family members, including a Customs officer, Tijani Kabiru, his wife, and their four children. The incident occurred around 2 am at their home in the Olowopoku area.

Reports indicate that the fire, believed to have originated from an electric spark in a solar panel installed on the roof, began at approximately 2:09 am. Kabiru, in his late 40s, was asleep with his wife and five children when the fire rapidly spread through the building.

One of the children, a 13-year-old, was reading when the fire started. Realizing the danger, the child rushed to his fatherā€™s room, only to find the family struggling due to smoke inhalation. The child managed to escape the house and sought help, but it was difficult for neighbors to access the house due to security measures, including electric barbed wires and strong doors.

Despite calling the Fire Service at around 3:10 am, the family was tragically unable to survive. The bodies of Tijani, his wife, and four children were retrieved and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at A Division.

The Osun State Fire Service confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Dekunle Ibraheem expressing condolences and confirming the deaths. Only one family member managed to escape the blaze.
