 Tragedy Averted as 120-Year-Old Ancestral Tree Falls at Obosi Market By Chiedu Okoye A major tragedy was averted at Eke Obosi Market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after a 120-year-old ancestral tree collapsed, destroying shops and goods but leaving traders and visitors unharmed. The massive tree, estimated to be about 150 feet tall, fell within the market premises, damaging at least 12 shops and valuable merchandise. Residents and traders described the incident as miraculous, noting that no lives were lost despite the extent of the destruction. The fallen tree held significant cultural importance as a sacred symbol of Eke Obosi Market, which is regarded as a stronghold of the traditions and cultural heritage of the Obosi people.  LAGOS STATE CHIEF JUDGE SWEARS IN 30 NEWLY APPOINTED CUSTOMARY COURT MEMBERS


The Chief Judge of Lagos State and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Hon. Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, on Tuesday, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of 30 newly appointed members of the Customary Court in Lagos State.


Addressing the new appointees, Justice Alogba emphasised that fairness is the cornerstone of justice and urged them to dispense justice impartially and without bias. 


He cautioned against actions that could undermine the integrity of the judicial system, stating, "Do not do anything to pollute the stream of justice."


The Chief Judge further advised the appointees to foster respectful and harmonious relationships with their court proceedings, promoting mutual understanding within their respective courts.


He also highlighted the importance of professional appearance, urging them to dress appropriately for proceedings, as their attire should reflect the dignity and decorum of the Court.


Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission, Mrs. Adebola Odeyemi encouraged the appointees to take their roles seriously and execute their duties diligently. 


She reminded them to safeguard confidential information and maintain professionalism in all aspects of their work.


The swearing-in ceremony marked a significant step in strengthening the Customary Court system in Lagos State.
