Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief.  Rivers Crisis: Fubara Says He Wouldn’t Withhold Road Projects in Wike’s LGA if He Were Evil

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has stated that he would not have inaugurated road projects in Obio Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) if he were a malicious person. Fubara emphasized that politics is about service, regardless of personal loyalties or political allegiances.

He made the remarks during the inauguration of the Okocha road in the Rumuolumeni community, Obio Akpor LGA, which is the home area of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former chairman of the LGA.

Fubara and Wike have been in conflict since Fubara assumed office, despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu to mediate. The rift has led to significant political tensions, including an attempted bombing of the state House of Assembly and defections of 27 lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the inauguration, Fubara remarked, “If I were an evil person, I might say, ‘I wouldn’t come here,’ given the situation and location. But because it’s our duty in government to serve and ensure the well-being of our people, we are here to ensure they are happy.”
