Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. Rolls-Royce welcomes Princess Royal to Goodwood for anniversary celebrations

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars welcomed HRH Princess Anne to its home at Goodwood, West Sussex last weekend as part of the marque’s 120th anniversary celebrations.

Chief executive Chris Brownridge introduced members of the Rolls-Royce board before taking the Princess Royal on a tour of the plant.

She was treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the facilities, meeting managers, associates and apprentices along the way.

The CEO and director of manufacturing then briefed Her Royal Highness on the site extension project now underway on land adjacent to the existing Rolls-Royce HQ – the first major change to its physical footprint since it opened in 2003.

More than 2,500 people work at Goodwood, with a further 7,500 jobs involved in the wider supply chain.

Chris told guests on the day: “We’re honoured to welcome The Princess Royal to the home of Rolls-Royce as part of our 120th anniversary celebrations this year.

“Her Royal Highness makes her first visit to Goodwood at a pivotal moment in our history, as we embark on the biggest investment in our manufacturing facilities and capabilities since we began building motor cars here.

“Through meetings with a broad range of colleagues – including world-class craftspeople and the new generation of talent represented by our apprentices – we were delighted to have the opportunity to show the princess who we are, what we do and our immense contribution to the local, regional and national economies.

“We’re proud to continue the relationship Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has enjoyed with the royal family over many decades.”

The Princess Royal also unveiled a plaque commemorating her visit and signed the visitors’ book.

She was joined by dignitaries including Sir Richard Kleinwort, the vice lord-lieutenant for West Sussex; Philippa Gogarty, the high sheriff; Cllr Pieter Montyn and Cllr Clare Apel, the chairs of West Sussex County Council and Chichester District Council; and Jess Brown-Fuller MP.
