2,575 Days After Abduction: Group Renews Demand for Leah Sharibu’s Release

As the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, themed “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality,” the Association of Christian Correspondents of Nigeria (ACCoN) has reiterated its call for the release of Leah Sharibu, urging the Federal Government, security agencies, and stakeholders to intensify efforts to secure her freedom.

Leah was among the 110 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram from Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018. While others were released, she remains in captivity 2,575 days later.

In a statement signed by its president, Adeola Ogunlade, ACCoN expressed frustration over the government’s failure to secure Leah’s release and that of thousands of other women and girls still in captivity. The group insisted that Leah’s plight must not be forgotten and urged relentless efforts to bring her home.

Ogunlade described Leah’s faith and resilience as an inspiration to young girls across Nigeria.

“Leah’s courage in the face of adversity remains a source of strength. We cannot allow her story to fade into silence,” he said.

ACCoN called on Nigerians and the international community to maintain pressure on the government for decisive action. Ogunlade also urged the Christian community to remain steadfast in prayer and advocacy for Leah’s freedom.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to speaking up for the voiceless while advocating for peace, justice, and security across Nigeria.
