 ZIMBABWEAN COUPLE DEPORTED OVER SECRET BURIAL OF CHILD IN BOTSWANA A Zimbabwean couple has been deported from Botswana after secretly burying their child without notifying authorities. Motilinah Mpofu and Christopher Ncube were convicted on Thursday of concealing a death after they allegedly dug a grave for their child in the dead of night. The Gaborone court heard the child had died suddenly. Instead of reporting the death to police, health officials, or traditional leaders, the couple quietly buried the youngster and hoped no one would find out. But the secret did not stay buried for long.   Police moved in and arrested the pair.  Burial Date for Elder Statesman Edwin Clark Announced


The final resting date for the late Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a revered elder statesman and former Information Commissioner, has been set for May 13, 2025. The burial will take place at his country home in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, as announced by his eldest son, Penaowei Clark, during a press briefing in Kiagbodo.


According to the statement released by Penaowei Clark, a series of events will precede the burial, beginning on Wednesday, May 7, with a commemorative lecture in honor of Chief Clark at the NAF Conference Centre & Suites in Abuja at 11 a.m. The following day, Thursday, May 8, a valedictory session will be held at the Senate Chamber at 11 a.m. to pay tribute to the late statesman.


The burial program includes a packed schedule of events across multiple cities. On Friday, May 9, a Day of Tribute will take place at the NAF Conference Centre & Suites in Abuja at 3 p.m. The following day, Saturday, May 10, will feature a wrestling contest in Yenagoa, followed by a Service of Songs at St. James’ Anglican Church in Asokoro, Abuja, at 5 p.m.


On Sunday, May 11, a Boat Regatta and Port Harcourt Masquerade will be held, alongside a Candlelight Memorial occurring simultaneously in Yenagoa, Kiagbodo, and Abuja at No. 43, Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.


The events continue on Monday, May 12, with a Commendation Service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja at 8 a.m., followed by a Valedictory Court Session at the High Court of Justice in Warri, Delta State, at 10 a.m. Later that day, Chief Clark’s body will depart Abuja for Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, at 10:30 a.m., where a Commendation Service will be held at Ijaw House from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The body will then proceed to Warri, Delta State, arriving at No. 5, Swamp Road, for lying in state from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., before departing for Kiagbodo Town, where a Service of Songs and an all-night vigil will take place.


The funeral proceedings will culminate on Tuesday, May 13, in Kiagbodo. The day will begin with lying in state at Edwin Clark University from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Commendation Service at the same venue until 11 a.m. The funeral service will commence at 11 a.m., with a reception at 1 p.m. and interment at 5 p.m., followed by an all-night vigil.


A Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, to conclude the burial rites.
