INDIAN TOURISTS ARE CANCELLING THEIR TRAVEL PLANS AFTER TURKEY AND AZERBAIJAN EXPRESSED SUPPORT FOR PAKISTAN. (PHOTO).

In the aftermath of Turkey and Azerbaijan expressing support for Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, a significant number of Indian tourists are cancelling their travel plans to these countries. Leading travel agencies, including MakeMyTrip and EaseMyTrip, have reported a 60% drop in new bookings and a surge in cancellations—250% for Turkey and 30% for Azerbaijan—within just six days.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka has called for a tourism boycott, highlighting that Indian tourists contributed over ₹4,000 crore to the economies of Turkey and Azerbaijan last year. He urged citizens to choose alternative destinations, emphasizing the need to reconsider supporting nations that back India’s adversaries.

In response to public sentiment, travel platforms like ixigo have suspended bookings to Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China. Additionally, travel agents in Gujarat are advising against non-essential trips to these countries. Tourists are now exploring alternative destinations such as Georgia, Serbia, Greece, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, has intensified diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor led to further international reactions, with Turkey and Azerbaijan siding with Pakistan. This alignment has sparked widespread calls for boycotts across various sectors, including tourism and imports, reflecting a broader push for economic self-reliance and national solidarity.
