NAF RELIGIOUS LEADERS TAKE GLOBAL STAGE AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY TO ADVANCE STRATEGIC FAITH-BASED PEACEBUILDING

In a move to deepen national unity and enhance operational effectiveness through moral and spiritual guidance, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) nominated the Directors of its three Religious Directorates to participate in an intensive course on Strategic Leadership in Faith-Based Peacebuilding, Mediation, and Inter-Religious Dialogue at Georgetown University, Washington DC.

The initiative, which aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff’s third Key Enabler, deliberate training and force development, underscores NAF’s forward-thinking approach to tackling the root causes of insecurity, especially the rise of religious extremism and sectarian divisions. It reflects a clear understanding that strategic religious leadership is pivotal to fostering enduring peace within the armed forces and across the country.

The course, organised by the International Centre for Religion and Diplomacy (ICRD) in partnership with Georgetown University, brought together religious and security actors from around the world to share best practices in faith-based mediation, peacebuilding, and conflict transformation. Through dynamic lectures, case studies, interactive workshops, and immersive cultural experiences, NAF religious leaders gained exposure to global models of interfaith engagement and practical skills in conflict-sensitive leadership.

This initiative represents another milestone in the Air Force’s ongoing journey to build a force that is not only lethal in combat but also compassionate in conduct, championing peace, moral clarity, and national unity.
