NDC STATEMENT ON COURT RULING Our attention has been drawn to a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja this morning, wherein His Lordship, Honourable Justice Isah Dashen, gave a ruling on an application filed by an unregistered association known as Peace Movement Party. The public knows that by December 2025, the Nigeria Democratic Congress  as an association complained of INEC’s refusal to register us as a political party, whereupon we proceeded to the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court upheld our constitutional right to freedom of association under the Constitution and compelled INEC to register us, which INEC did. Since then, we have started political activities, embarked on the registration of members, held congresses from ward to national levels, held conventions, and concluded primaries to all offices following INEC’s timetable.  NIMC Reports Over 120 Million NIN Enrolments, Justifies Price Review

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that National Identity Number (NIN) enrolments have surpassed 120 million, reaching 120,000,040 for citizens and legal residents. The milestone was revealed alongside the commission’s rationale for its recent service price adjustments during a press conference on Wednesday.

NIMC Director General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, highlighted the commission’s efforts to enhance infrastructure capacity over the past 24 months to better serve Nigerians. She also claimed a 40 percent reduction in corruption within the agency, attributing it to improved operational measures.

Addressing the controversial price review effective May 1, 2025, Coker-Odusote explained that the adjustments aimed to curb extortion and standardize charges. “There were all sorts of prices over there. People were extorting citizens with outrageous prices,” she stated. While NIN enrolment remains free, fees for data modifications, such as date of birth corrections, have increased from N16,340 to N28,574. Similarly, the cost for NIN retrieval via Unstructured Supplementary Service Data rose from N20 to N50. Conversely, verification fees have been reduced to make the process more accessible.

Coker-Odusote emphasized that the price changes reflect a balance, with some fees lowered and others raised to ensure sustainability and fairness. “In terms of verification, the prices were reviewed downwards but upwards in terms of modifications,” she clarified.

NIMC’s price adjustments have sparked public debate, with the commission urging citizens to engage with official channels for accurate information and to report any extortion attempts.
