Nedra Talley Ross, last surviving member of The Ronettes, dies at 80 Nedra Talley Ross, the last surviving member of the iconic 1960s girl group The Ronettes, has died at the age of 80. Her daughter, Nedra K. Ross, said the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee died Sunday morning at her home, surrounded by family. In a social media post, she wrote that her mother “went home to be with the Lord” at about 8:30 a.m., noting she was “safe in her own bed at home with her family close, knowing she was loved.” Ross performed alongside her cousins Estelle Bennett and Ronnie Spector in The Ronettes, which rose to fame in the early 1960s after signing with producer Phil Spector. The group became known for defining hits such as “Be My Baby” and “Baby I Love You,” helping shape the sound and style of the era’s girl-group pop.  OPERATIONAL VISIT: COAS REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO LASTING PEACE IN BENUE STATE

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in Benue State and other parts of the country. He made this known during an operational visit to Benue State on Tuesday, 3 June 2025.


On arrival, the COAS was received at the Headquarters Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE (JTF OPWS), where the Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, presented a comprehensive briefing on the security situation. The briefing highlighted key operational achievements, ongoing challenges, and the continued efforts of troops in neutralizing criminal elements disrupting peace in Benue and neighboring states.


Following the operational engagement, the COAS proceeded to the Government House in Makurdi, where he paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.


In a show of empathy and solidarity, General Oluyede extended heartfelt condolences to the Governor and the people of Benue over recent unfortunate incidents that resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property in some communities. The COAS assured the Governor of the Nigerian Army's firm resolve to safeguard lives and property within the state.


He emphasized the critical need for sustained collaboration among all security stakeholders to achieve lasting peace. He further reiterated the military's commitment to its constitutional mandate of defending the nation's territorial integrity and supporting internal security operations.


In his response, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, expressed appreciation for the COAS's timely visit and commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts, particularly the strategic deployment of troops to identified flashpoints. He called on the military to sustain and intensify its operations until all threats to peace and security are effectively neutralized.


The visit of the Chief of Army Staff to Benue State is a clear testament to the Nigerian Army's proactive approach to security management and its dedication to protecting the lives and property of all citizens. It further reinforces the Army's resolve to support civil authorities in ensuring peace and stability across the country.
