Kun Khalifat FC Rejects Selling NPFL Slot, Open to Imo State Government Adoption

Michael Chukwudi, CEO of Kun Khalifat Football Club, has declared that the club will not sell its Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) slot to any team but would welcome adoption by the Imo State Government. Speaking on Magic FM Aba on July 29, 2025, Chukwudi stated, “We will not sell our NPFL slot to any team, but if the Imo State Government calls in to adopt the club, we will welcome that.”

Chukwudi also expressed confidence in the team’s performance for the upcoming NPFL season, asserting, “Kun Khalifat will not finish lower than 10th position in the NPFL.” He further noted that the team feels no pressure despite being the only club representing Imo State in the league this season, adding, “The team doesn’t feel any pressure being the only team representing Imo State in this season’s NPFL.”

The CEO’s remarks come amid speculation about the club’s future and its role in elevating Imo State’s presence in Nigerian football. Chukwudi emphasized the club’s commitment to maintaining its NPFL status and delivering a strong performance. Discussions with potential stakeholders, including the Imo State Government, are expected to continue as the club prepares for the season.
