Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him.  Trump opens new golf course, meets Scottish first minister

President Donald Trump officially opened his newest golf course and held discussions with Scottish First Minister John Swinney as he wrapped up his visit to Scotland on Tuesday. At the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Trump appeared alongside his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, and cut the ribbon to mark the grand opening while speaking briefly with the media. He mentioned that after playing the course, he would return to the United States to address global issues.

Trump referenced a cease-fire arranged between Thailand and Cambodia, saying, "We did one yesterday, as you know, we stopped the war," although Thailand later accused Cambodia of violating the cease-fire. He emphasized that resolving conflicts was more important than golfing, despite enjoying the sport. This was his second day golfing on the trip, having played Monday at his Turnberry resort, where he also met with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Swinney reportedly sought to discuss the 10% tariff the U.S. imposed on U.K. exports, especially Scotch whisky, which accounts for a quarter of the U.K.’s food and drink exports. Reports say Trump and Swinney discussed whisky extensively, with a Scottish government source noting a possible “window of opportunity” to reduce the tariff ahead of Trump’s next U.K. visit in September.
