MAN PARADED PUBLICLY FOR KILLING SACRED PYTHON

A native of Anambra State was paraded through his local community for allegedly killing a sacred python.

The python represented an "ancestral father" and killing it is regarded as patricide in several Igbo and Delta communities in Nigeria.

It is a taboo to trap or harm a python, and where one is found dead in the wild, great lamentation is raised for it and it is buried with cultural ceremonies that befit a man.

In the case of the Anambra man, the dead python was wrapped around his neck and he was made to roam the community in a show of shame.
