U.S imposes sanctions on former Congo President Joseph Kabila The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila for his support of ‌Rwanda-backed M23 rebels and for fueling political instability in Congo's troubled east. The U.S. Treasury Department said M23 and its political-military arm, the Congo River Alliance (AFC), had been stoking violent conflict in eastern DRC, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians and a mass displacement crisis. Treasury said Kabila had provided financial support to the AFC in order to influence the political situation in eastern DRC, while encouraging DRC troops to defect and join AFC forces. It said Kabila was working to regain influence over the government by backing a candidate opposed to the current leader. DOUG MARTIN REPORTEDLY JUMPED FROM SECOND STORY OF REHAB CENTER MONTHS BEFORE HIS DEATH. (PHOTO)

Professional American star Doug Martin reportedly jumped from second story of rehab center months before his death

Doug Martin reportedly experienced a serious mental health crisis months before his death, with new reports claiming he jumped from a second-story window at a rehab center and became involved in a physical altercation with police officers.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Martin was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold in August after checking into Tranquility Rehab Center in Castro Valley. Authorities say he tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamines upon arrival. During his stay, Martin allegedly left the facility without permission multiple times and was later found outside dancing with his hands covered in blood. A supervisor reportedly believed he had jumped from a second-story window and punched the side of the building.

Police responded to the scene and asked Martin if he was armed; he reportedly replied, “Kinda,” without clarifying. When officers attempted to search him, he resisted, and authorities allegedly found three bags of cocaine and a 12-inch chef’s knife on his person. Martin was subsequently placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. The Chronicle notes that any potential charges were likely to be reviewed by a prosecutor, though it is unclear if that occurred before his death.

Martin passed away at age 36 while in police custody following a break-in at an Oakland home. His family had called for medical assistance after he became disoriented and entered a neighbor’s house. Police said a brief struggle occurred during his detainment, after which Martin became unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
